RESUME I am a well-rounded creative, currently an Associate Creative Director/Copywriter at Conill Los Angeles. See my linkedin for full ad history.
TRIVIA
Dallas is my hometown. I have lots of stories about illegal rooster fighting in secret back yards.
Since those unruly TX days, I have lived in NY, CA, CO, NJ, and SP. I now call OR home.
When I was a kid, I’d get a crisp twenty dollar bill for every “A” on my report card. So I studied hard.
In between my studies, I enjoyed hiphop, breakdancing, soccer, football, basketball, graffiti and drawing.
Today, I’m into inciting my daughter’s curiosity, looking for the thing that makes so many people fall in love with the Northwest, pampering my taste buds with good food, getting back in touch with my artistic side, and making salads with leafs grown in my garden.
Awards are definitely meaningful to me, on a personal and professional level.
Thinking back, The Junior Texas Duck Stamp Competition I won in the late 90s is still my favorite among all the awards I have won. And I’ve won quite a few, far more important ones.
Graffiti was my way into the art scene which was my way into the print production scene which was finally my way into the ad scene.
Did you know you can be a nature photographer inside the Red Dead Redemption universe? Oh yeah.
I’ve also been a proofer, a newspaper layout editor, a waiter, an IT guy, a grocery store bagger, a CD burner-er, a FedEx loader, an old photo restorator, a protestor, a weekly New Yorker cartoon caption contest submitter, a retoucher, a mechanical artist, a sleep walker, and a harsh critic of my own art when I sleep walked. I used to wake up to find my sketches in the toilet.
When I’m not thinking about ads, and I think about ads an absurd amount of time, I work with independent voices and organizations as an editorial illustrator with a focus on politics and social justice issues.
Or I’m contributing as a design editor for Barricade, a periodical dedicated to publishing translations of linguistically and temporally diverse works of antifascist and antiauthoritarian literature.
At night, I invent bedtime stories for my daughter and then partner with artists from around the world to make them into real children’s books.
Like I’m not busy enough, I’m also trying to break into the comic book scene. I have a few fun ideas I’d like to see published one day.
In my spare time, as if I have any, I read books for my family-only reading club. The last book we read was a short kafka-esque story called “The Wall” by Marlen Haushofer. It finishes with the idea that despite disaster, we can still go on as long as there is something to love.
My Daughter, Wife, and a Belgian Shepherd are the loves of my life.
